SDSU Facilities Services is a customer service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.
The Supervising Carpenter will direct the work of the Carpenter Shop supervising skilled journey-level carpenters, semi-skilled workers, and student assistants in the performance of carpentry work to include providing input on performance evaluations; providing on the job training and instruction; monitoring and inspecting work; and creating work schedules. The Supervising Carpenter ensures a safe working and living environment. This position interprets plans and drawings; analyses job/project costs; tracks and enters daily labor on the automated facilities management system; assigns work to other shop workers and completes all necessary documentation for work orders.
The Supervising Carpenter will also perform the duties of a skilled carpenter to include new construction, remodeling of existing spaces, and repair and maintenance work. The incumbent builds, remodels, renovates and repairs various types of facilities, buildings, offices, classrooms, restrooms, sheds, scaffolds, forms, frames, fences, and other structures.
Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program. One to two years of experience as a journey-level carpenter that included work coordination responsibilities. Two or more years of experience as a journey-level carpenter, including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity.
