This position performs horticulture related tasks as necessary to maintain the Historic Cultural Landscape, grounds, trees, vegetation and gardens in a well-groomed, healthy, neat and attractive condition. Performs general labor maintenance tasks in connection with plants such as: planting, weeding, feeding, cultivating, irrigating, pruning, mowing, raking, aerating, chainsaw, arborist saw, (pole chain saw) power pruners and removal of unwanted or dead vegetation. Propagation of genetic species in connection with maintaining historic plant genetic lines. Primary duties are located in the Sonoma State Historic Park, with secondary duties located in other park units throughout the District. This position will provide the needed resource and guidance to advise supervisory staff on material needs and proper staffing to maintain historic landscapes and gardens. This position will plan and schedule the District Pesticide Management Program and will help support the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review. This position may act as a trainer and/or lead person to the Groundskeeper, Park Maintenance Assistant, Seasonal Maintenance Aide and volunteer classifications.
