Plans, organizes, and coordinates marketing, communications, and public relations programs, campaigns, and events that promote the City and its services and programs; analyzes how different media reach target audiences and generate interest.Maintains and updates the City’s website, including the organization, layout, and presentation of City services and programs; establishes schedules, strategies, and communication methods for providing effective communications and marketing programs that promote organization goals.Develops and evaluates consistency of web-based or printed marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, ads, programs, invitations, and other collateral materials to help ensure public and target audiences understand, participate in, and accept department programs and policies; implements the design, layout and editorial content of all materials to ensure accuracy, consistency and appropriate representation of the organization; oversees printing and production of materials. Plans, organizes, and prepares marketing publications related to Economic Development and other City departments and businesses concerning advertising, sponsorship, and hosting opportunities, including billboard advertising.Meets with City officials and staff to discuss communications and marketing campaigns, goals, and needs; plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of public relations events and programs.Researches, writes, edits, and determines content of and prepares graphics for news and feature articles, editorials, press releases, program summaries and tributes for the City’s quarterly publication, customer water bill inserts, and other publications; considers and selects articles and story lines that appeal to the interests of diverse readers.Plans, formulates, and administers City surveys for evaluating community satisfaction with City programs and services by working closely with departmental representatives, the City Manager’s Office, and designated parties.Attends meetings, events, and conferences to represent the City.Administers the City’s social media accounts; develops content strategy for communicating the messages of the organization, special events, and issues; provides support for continued development of the City’s brand and marketing campaign; reviews and responds to public inquiries and comments on social media sites; monitors results of communications and marketing efforts and makes appropriate recommendations regarding dissemination of information. Uses a digital camera to take video and photographs at City events and programs; selects, edits, and manipulates photographs and video files to enhance quality for electronic and print publication; selects appropriate video and photographs for design projects and catalogs and maintains digital photo and video files.
Associates degree or 60 semester units or the equivalent of college level coursework in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s Degree is highly desirable. Two years of public relations experience, which includes marketing, advertising, writing and editing, administrative support, customer service, and/or sales experience is required. Bilingual ability in Spanish, Mandarin, or Korean is highly desirable.
