Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate- and graduate-level introductory animal science courses and other areas appropriate to the expertise of the individual and needs of the department. Courses taught may include, but are not limited to, livestock production and management, food animal medicine, production medicine, parasitology, emerging infectious diseases, and epidemiology. Duties may also include supervision of undergraduate senior projects, supervising graduate student research, and participating in department service activities. The successful candidate is expected to excel at teaching, develop an applied research program, demonstrate the ability to obtain external funding, and actively incorporate Learn by Doing into their work with students.
The successful candidate will have experience in and a passion for undergraduate teaching in these animal science-related disciplines, and will be expected to develop an independent applied research program in their field of expertise. It is expected that research will support or advance understanding of the interrelatedness of environmental, animal, and human wellbeing, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate across departments, colleges, and institutions to expand or complement existing research programs in the department and college. Cal Poly espouses the teacher-scholar model, which embraces the idea that teaching informs research and vice-versa.
