Description :

Daily Operations of the Labs (55%)

  • Develop and maintain a schedule for use of the lab spaces for student and faculty use each semester.
    • Assure that all lab users (faculty, staff, and students) have access to the current schedule.
    • Assure that the lab schedule includes both structured, course-related learning experiences and open-lab hours for students.
  • Train faculty in the correct use of laboratory equipment and simulators.
  • Collaborate with Chair, Simulation Lab Instructors, course leads, and faculty to ensure lab supplies and equipment are available based on faculty requests and course schedule.
    • Sets up and breaks down individual lab spaces for faculty.
  • Operate and program high-fidelity simulators, and A/V equipment including for use of live streaming and viewing of simulation activities, computer software, and other medical equipment.
  • Allocate equipment and supplies used in all learning lab sessions.
  • Assist students and faculty during laboratory classes.
  • Establish and monitor the procedure for signing out of laboratory equipment and movement of equipment from one laboratory area to another.
  • Maintain security of the labs.
  • Complete work in a timely manner, including preparation, documentation, and tracking of student and faculty lab utilization.
  • Participate in program meetings and committees as appointed.
  • Maintain sanitation of the lab according to university and program guidelines.


Ensure Future Laboratory Operations (20%)

  • In collaboration with clinical Instructors maintain the necessary supplies needed for scheduled lab sessions in each instructional term.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology to maintain a stable technology learning environment and to plan for future upgrades, as necessary.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the laboratory and auxiliary equipment to ensure their state of readiness to support the curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and administration.
  • Perform required maintenance and work with vendors to assure equipment is well-maintained and in working order.
  • Identify and recommend new and replacement equipment and materials in support of the current and projected curriculum.
  • Maintain an inventory and tracking system for all department-owned laboratory equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
  • Evaluates offers of donated scientific equipment.
  • Keeps abreast of current literature and issues relevant to simulation and problem-based learning.
  • Contribute to and attend simulation forums and conferences as appropriate to prepare and assess lab operational effectiveness.


Manage Laboratory Safety (20%)

  • Review and apply university, college, and departmental policies and procedures in the learning labs.
  • In collaboration with the Simulation Lab Instructors, develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the safe operation and work performed in the laboratories by lab staff, in support of the health curriculum.
  • Ensure that labs meet or exceed technical, professional, and safety standards in compliance with licensing authority, legislative requirements, and University policy/ procedure.
  • Prepare and maintain a hazard inventory of chemicals in accordance with Hazardous Materials Management Plan.
  • Collect, store and dispose of hazardous wastes in accordance with the guidelines and procedures of the EPA, OHSA, and University policy.
  • Maintain laboratories in a clean, organized, and efficient manner.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is operational and records are maintained.
Requirements :

Bachelor's degree in education, information science, or health related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum of one year's experience in each of the following: coordinating, operating, and managing multi-disciplinary learning laboratory experiences; maintaining learning laboratory inventories, supplies, and equipment.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to simulation and learning laboratories. Proficient with MS Office Suite. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed. May be required to work evenings and weekends to assure that program needs are met.
