Receives and reviews project applications, including plans and other required documents for accuracy and completeness, as well as, compliance with County regulations and procedures. Assigns and monitors building permit applications. Reviews complex applications for a variety of projects such as building permits, design approvals, tree removal, administrative permits; collects data; determines compliance with applicable building and planning codes, ordinances, and regulations. Provides hands-on training to other Permit Technicians. Approves/disapproves applications based on review and processes approved applications.
Requests information from customers regarding their projects in order to determine the type of permits and processes required, such as building permits, use permits, coastal development permits, etc. Assists applicants in completing building permit and land use applications; contacts applicants to obtain necessary factual information needed to process permits.
Greets customers at the public counter and explains a variety of technical information related to building, land use and zoning requirements, environmental review procedures, application filing procedures and plan and permit review process.
Researches, collects, and records factual property and resource information from a variety of sources including electronic databases.
Prepares reports, resolutions, technical documents and correspondence supporting analysis of applications and recommendations.
Maintains records, logs, and files.
Requirements :
Experience: Three years of experience reviewing, approving and processing a variety of permit applications common to two or more areas of Monterey County's RMA, which includes duties at a level comparable to Permit Technician II.
AND
Education: Completion of college level course work in basic mathematical/statistical concepts and land area calculation techniques, basic mapping or drafting techniques, construction management, building trade construction or inspection, environmental studies, or land use planning.
Certifications: Certifications by the International Code Council as a Permit Technician dependent on assignment.
