To take the initial specification for sheet steelwork, generate the product drawings, instructions, specifications, punch press programs, jig and tooling specifications/designs and settings and other information required to produce the product(s).
Liaise with customers (and our Sales team) to ensure full clarity on the engineering and specification aspects of their requirements.
Generate, quality check and release all specification and design information, production methods, punch press programs, processes and finishes to support procurement, product production, finishing, handling and shipping of the required quality "right first time".
Provide an effective checking function of your own and colleagues work to ensure works orders are issued meeting requirements, thus eliminating unnecessary rework.
Operate and increase your proficiency with the company's CAD systems and ensure the security, correctness, good order and accessibility of its records so speeding the release of customer orders and "standard instructions".
Learn and operate ATLAS design software.
Optimise the use of materials.
Generate and define production processes and facilitate continuous improvement.
Assist production team leaders by developing manufacturing target times (as a basis for continuous improvements).
Work with production team leaders to generate/update processes, training and advice on quality self-checking during manufacture (e.g. check sheets). Provide quality inspection support to the Production Manager (e.g. on purchased or sub-contracted materials) and to the production team at critical times in the production process to minimise waste due to quality issues.
Work with production team leaders and their team members to identify design and specification issues and ensure that they are speedily and (where relevant) permanently rectified within specification data and drawings held or that limited manufacturing concessions are agreed and recorded.
Make recommendations on the control of product costs, "make or buy" decisions, value engineering, manufacturing processes and safety.
Take responsibility for delivering the objectives of specific programmes (e.g. standardisation) delegated to you.
Ensure that relevant design standards are maintained and that work represents professional good practice.
Take a critical overview of the parameters and standards (expert systems) built into the automated design and manufacturing systems to ensure they are relevant, accurate and reflect latest innovation.
Liaise with machine tool manufacturer's engineers and generally keep yourself informed on the capabilities of machine tools and tooling and on innovations in production techniques.
